Reconnect, Repair, Grow Together
At Lakeland Therapy Centre, we provide in person Parenting Stress and Parent Coaching and Counselling in The Beaches, Toronto and online across Ontario.
“We’re carrying so much stress as a family, and we don’t want this to be how things stay.”
Parenting is one of the most meaningful roles you’ll ever hold, and one of the hardest. When children struggle, parents often carry worry, guilt, exhaustion, and self-doubt silently. You may be asking yourself if you’re doing enough, doing it “right,” or how to support your child when nothing seems to work.
Even when your kids are doing ok, you may not be-and that matters to the whole family system.
At Lakeland Therapy Centre, parent counselling and coaching offers a compassionate, non-judgmental space to support you, because when parents feel steadier and supported, families do better.
We help parents move through challenges with care, clarity, and support, creating calmer, more connected homes.

Evidence-Based Approaches
What is our approach
Parent counselling at Lakeland Therapy Centre is grounded in proven approaches and guided by compassion. We focus on what helps you and your family feel steadier, more connected, and better supported, one step at a time.
The 4 P's Parenting Framework
Predictable, Proactive, Positive, Playful. This effective approach helps parents create structure while strengthening connection. By focusing on consistency, encouragement, and relationship-based strategies, parents often feel more confident responding to behaviour without power struggles.
Attachment Based Parenting Support
This approach focuses on strengthening the parent-child relationship as the foundation for emotional and behavioural growth. It supports parents in responding with warmth and attunement while still maintaining boundaries. It also explores parents’ own history of early attachment.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for Parents
CBT helps parents notice and shift unhelpful thought patterns such as guilt, self-blame, or fear. This often leads to calmer decision-making and more confidence in parenting choices.
Parent Coaching for Child Anxiety and Accommodations
We help parents understand how anxiety shows up in children and how to respond in ways that reduce long-term anxiety rather than unintentionally reinforcing it. This includes evidence based guidance around supportive (but not over-accommodating) responses at home and school.
Emotion Coaching
Emotion coaching helps parents support children through big feelings while still setting limits. Parents learn how to validate emotions, build emotional literacy, and guide children toward healthier regulation skills.
Behavior Parenting Strategies
Grounded in behavioural therapy, this approach focuses on clear expectations, routines, and reinforcement. It is especially helpful for challenges like ADHD, emotional outbursts, oppositional behaviour, and difficulty with transitions.
Trauma Informed Therapy
Many parents find that their own childhood experiences, especially those involving stress, neglect, or trauma, can quietly influence it affects their parenting today. Trauma-informed therapy helps parents understand these patterns with compassion, make room for the past hurts if needed, and regulate emotional triggers, and respond to their children in ways that feel calmer, safer, and more intentional rather than reactive.
Every family has its own rhythm, values, and challenges. Our role is to walk alongside you with care, offering guidance, not judgment, and support without blame.

Common Questions About Parent Counselling and Coaching Therapy
Shouldn't I know how to parent?
Parenting doesn’t come with a manual. Seeking support is a sign of care, not weakness. And our therapists help identify strategies that you can use for your child and family.
Can this therapy help with behavioural issues?
Very much so. Parent counselling often helps caregivers understand what’s driving behaviour and respond more effectively and calmly.
Is this therapy to just tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Not in the least. Our therapists are greatly aware of parenting and caregiver stressors and are supportive and collaborative, not judgmental. We focus on understanding, strengths, and growth, not blame.
Is this for me or for my child; what if my child has no issues at all?
This therapy is primarily for parents, whether your child has challenges or not. Therapy can create space to explore complex emotions about being a parent. It can also help strengthen communication, build emotional understanding, and support healthy development, even when challenges feel mild or hard to define.
What if my co-parent and I don't agree on parenting?
This can be common. We support co-parents in improving communication, consistency, and understanding, even when parenting styles differ.
I'm a new parent; is this helpful to me?
You’re very welcome here. Parenting counselling provides a supportive space to ask questions, build confidence, and feel less alone as you navigate the early stages of parenting.
Will this help me get tools to manage my child's anxiety?
Yes. Parenting counselling and coaching offers practical, developmentally appropriate tools to help you respond to your child’s anxiety, emotional outbursts, or worries with greater confidence and calm, while also supporting your own emotional wellbeing.
What if I have many worries about my child?
Parent counselling and coaching can help you understand what’s driving your worries and give you clear, supportive ways to respond without feeling constantly on edge. With guidance and reassurance, many parents find they can worry less, feel more confident, and support their child with greater calm and clarity.
