Evidence-Based Approaches
What is our approach
At Lakeland Therapy Centre, ADHD Therapy and Coaching meets you where you are. Our evidence-based, personalized approach helps you clarify your goals, build practical skills, and create real, sustainable change, at a pace that works for you.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Research supports CBT’s effectiveness in reducing core ADHD symptoms, improving executive functioning (organization, planning, time management), and alleviating accompanying anxiety or depression.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Build psychological flexibility by noticing difficult thoughts without getting stuck in them. It empowers you to take actions aligned with your values—even on days when motivation or focus feels hard.
Behavioural Coaching and Skills Training
Coaching helps you build routines, time-management strategies, accountability, and habit creation and tailored to how you naturally think and operate. Research suggest coaching can significantly improve daily functioning, self-efficacy, and quality of life in adults with ADHD.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
DBT teaches practical emotional regulation and distress-tolerance skills that make it easier to manage overwhelm, impulsivity, and intense feelings. It helps adults with ADHD pause, choose healthier responses, and stay grounded in challenging moments.
Mindfulness and Self Regulation Tools
We teach calming and grounding strategies like mindfulness, breathing, and self-monitoring to help manage distractibility, impulsivity, and emotional overwhelm.
With the right tools, support, and a skilled therapist beside you, ADHD doesn’t have to run your life. You can feel clear, capable, and in control again.

Common Questions About ADHD Therapy and Coaching
How do I know if therapy will really help my ADHD?
Many adults with ADHD worry that nothing will work because they’ve already “tried everything.” Therapy helps you understand why your brain works the way it does—and more importantly, how to work with it instead of against it. With the right tools, structure, and support, most people experience meaningful improvements in daily functioning, emotional regulation, and confidence.
What if I'm not sure if I even have ADHD?
That’s completely okay. Many clients come to us unsure. Therapy helps you explore your patterns, symptoms, strengths, and struggles with a supportive professional. If appropriate, we can guide you toward formal assessment options and help you make sense of your results.
Is ADHD therapy different than regular talk therapy?
Yes. ADHD therapy blends emotional support and practical, skills-based strategies. Sessions often include planning tools, accountability, behavioural coaching, nervous-system regulation strategies, and real-life problem-solving so you leave with clarity; not overwhelm.
Can therapy help even if I'm already taking medication, or considering it?
Absolutely. Medication can support focus, energy, and cognitive regulation, but therapy gives you the tools, skills, and emotional support to build lasting habits. Many clients benefit most from both, a combination that strengthens structure, reduces overwhelm, and improves daily functioning.
What i I struggle with consistency or forgetting appointments?
This is very common, and it’s nothing to be embarrassed about. We work with ADHD brains every day. Your therapist can help you set reminders, create routines, and gently troubleshoot patterns that get in the way of consistency. Our practice is supportive; not punitive.
How long does ADHD therapy take?
Some people notice shifts within a few sessions as they begin using targeted strategies. Others benefit from longer-term support to untangle lifelong patterns and build new habits. Together, we’ll pace the work in a way that feels manageable and encouraging and not overwhelming.
